Epsom Hospital Update
November 2011
The bidding process for Epsom's new partner was completed on November 11th, but in the end there was only one bidder. Unless something very unexpected happens, Epsom will become part of a larger three hospital Trust, including Ashford Hospital, near Heathrow, and St Peter's in Chertsey. We will find out more details about their bid shortly, but I am now very optimistic about the future of Epsom. It would make no sense to take on Epsom just to downgrade it, and Epsom patients are unlikely to choose to go to Chertsey. So I think the future will be all about developing Epsom, and the arrival of a Royal Marsden clinic on the site as part of the deal will be particularly welcome.

Epsom Hospital Update

After much internal debate in the NHS, the decision was taken to seek a partnership for Epsom with one of the other Surrey Trusts. At the other end of the Trust, a similar decision was taken in London for St Helier...more

For the past ten years many of us have campaigned again and again to protect services at Epsom Hospital - particularly its A&E and maternity departments. Always it has seemed as if decisions about the future of the hospital were being taken by NHS officials in London and not by anyone in the Epsom area.
That is now about to change. The NHS reforms planned by the coalition government, of which I am part, mean that the decisions about the future of local hospital services will be taken locally, mostly by local GPs and their patients. From 2013 doctors will take over NHS commissioning - that is, they will decide which hospitals or organisations they ask to carry out treatment for their patients...more
