Epsom Hospital Update
Trust plans site choice in early 2004
The Epsom and St Helier Trust is planning to take final decisions about the future sites for its hospital services early in 2004. The Trust will publish the criteria it intends to use to select the main site for the planned single acute hospital in the first few weeks of the year, and then intends to take the decision shortly after that.
"The next few months will be crucial," says Chris. During January I will be launching the formal campaign for Epsom to be the chosen site. I know that many senior managers in the NHS believe that a brand new hospital in Sutton is the best option for patients - but if they go ahead with that project, it is likely to mean cuts in other services to help pay the bill. My proposals for a new development at Epsom provide a viable alternative which will avoid cuts in other services, and represents the best overall alternative for patients. I will be fighting to secure a positive decision for Epsom in the next few weeks."
