Epsom Hospital Update
Petition prompts divorce review
The NHS has agreed to carry out a detailed review of the divorce option between Epsom and St Helier in the wake of the Epsom Hospital Campaign petition asking for future decisions on local hospitals not to neglect the interests of Surrey residents. The work is being carried out by the East Elmbridge and Mid-Surrey Primary Care Trust, and its findings will be made available before the end of the public consultation period on the hospital proposals.
"I am delighted that this decision has been taken. Many people want a divorce, and though others are less certain, it is absolutely right that detailed work should be done into whether it is possible", said Chris Grayling. "My own preference is for a divorce between the two hospitals. But we need to see how that would work before any decisions were taken. I am extremely grateful to all those who backed the petition, and who have proved that doing all of the campaigning in recent months has made some difference to the process."
