Epsom Hospital Update
NEW HOSPITAL PROTEST
On May 5th a small group of protestors and staff will be marching from St Helier to Epsom to highlight the current threats to all of our local hospital services, as well as most immediately for us in Epsom, the huge question mark over the future of Epsom Hospital.
We will be assembling at St Helier at 9 am, where we are inviting people to come and see the marchers on their way - there will be a few short speeches.
We will then leave St Helier and head off towards Epsom, breaking the journey in Nonsuch Park near the Mansion at approximately 1045. We are inviting people who live in that part of the area to meet us for a short rally. We will then head on to Epsom, arriving in Rosebery Park at about 1230 where we are inviting local people to attend a protest rally. We will finally deliver a letter of protest to the NHS, arriving at Epsom Hospital at about 1pm.
The rally is being organised by the Epsom Hospital Campaign steering committee and the trade union Unison and staff representatives. The marchers will include members of all political parties locally and staff representatives. The number marching will be limited to a small group for safety reasons, but other concerned local people are invited to come to one of the three protest points along the way.
Comment from Chris Grayling MP
"We want the NHS to realise that the strength of feeling about our local hospital services and about the future of Epsom Hospital is as strong as ever. There is now a very real possibility that St Helier, Epsom and Guildford Hospitals will all be downgraded by the latest NHS reorganisation. It is madness for the Government to be cutting our local services after the huge increases in spending on the NHS in recent years - but that's what's happening. I hope people concerned about the situation will join one of the rallies along the route of the march and will help send a message to the NHS that people do not want these changes."
