Hospital Cluster sites sold

The Government is in the final stages of negotiating the sale of all the remaining redundant NHS sites on the Epsom Cluster to a consortium of Banks. The sale includes St Ebba's. West Park, Horton Farm and the proposed retail centre on the Horton Hospital site. News of the sale has come out of the blue, although negotiations have been going on for some months.

Chris has asked the Government to explain whether the sale plans were finalised before it started negotiations over the siting of a possible village community for people with learning difficulties at St Ebba's "If so," he says, "it would be a travesty - as the Parents and Relatives Group have been negotiating in good faith for several months over the future of the site. This deal would suggest that the talks may have been window-dressing."

It is not yet clear how the sale will affect future plans for the sites, three of which are due to be redeveloped in the next few years.
