Trade Justice Lobby
Chris has held a further set of meetings with members of the local Trade Justice Movement. The Movement held a national series of events on June 27th to raise awareness of trade issues affecting developing countries.
On that day Chris held a meeting with members of the Churches Together group in Ashtead who have been campaigning over trade issues, before going on to address a meeting of about 50 people at St Clements Church in Ewell Court.
"I recognise the very real concerns that many people have about the way trade rules affect developing countries", he said", and I believe they need a fair and level playing field if they are to develop economically. At present we in the developed world are asking them to accept international trade rules, but we still have protectionist policies like the Common Agricultural Policy which prevents them from selling their produce to us. This is wrong and it has to change".
Chris has agreed to make representations to the Government about trade issues on behalf of the protestors.
