Chris joined in the celebrations to unveil the statue of the suffragette Emily Davidson who died from injuries after falling in front of the King’s horse at the Derby in 1913.

He said: “It’s a really big addition to the town centre, it’s marking a piece of local history, but also a moment in national history. A tragedy that was a part of achieving a change that should always have been there in the first place, this was a moment in righting that wrong.”

He added that he was proud to have been able to support the second female Prime Minister Theresa May in 2018, as the centenary for some women first being allowed the vote came around.
