Local MP Chris Grayling has warned local businesses and developers that the green belt land and the rural character of the area around North Looe in Epsom should be protected against any proposals for greater commercial use of local land and buildings. The move follows controversial proposals to build a new waste centre on local land, a plan strongly opposed by local residents.

The North Looe area has been at the centre of a series of local planning controversies over whether or not former agricultural buildings and land can be used for other purposes.

“North Looe is essentially a country lane,” says Mr Grayling, “and as such the people who live there have the right to protect the character of the surrounding area. Any proposals for new activities in the area have to respect this, and fit in with the surroundings.”
